We'll start with the star of the show—Christian McCaffrey. The new 49ers running back proved he was worth trading for. He was among the highest-graded offensive players, pulling off a hat trick, scoring a passing touchdown, receiving touchdown, and a rushing touchdown against the Rams. McCaffrey finished the game with 183 all-purpose yards, his sixth game of the season and 38th in his career with 100-or-more all-purpose yards. McCaffrey's 76.6 overall grade is his fifth this season of 71.9-or-more.

In his second game back from a high-ankle sprain, tackle Trent Williams appears to be playing at his typical high level. The offensive lineman was the game's second-highest graded player (Rams RT Rob Havenstein, 88.5).

Spencer Burford started the game at right guard but split time with Daniel Brunskill. Burford had 31 snaps, while Brunskill had 22. One was significantly better in Pro Football Focus' eyes. Brunskill earned the third-highest grade among 49ers offensive players, while Burford earned the game's lowest overall grade.

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo earned his highest grade since Week 4 (87.5), also against the Rams. He finished the game 21-of-25 for 235 yards, two touchdowns, and a 132.5 passer rating. Garoppolo's 84 percent completion percentage is the fifth-highest in a single game in franchise history.


Brandon Aiyuk, who hauled in McCaffrey's touchdown throw, was the 49ers' highest-graded wide receiver. He finished the game with six receptions, 81 yards, and a touchdown on his six targets. The game was Aiyuk's third consecutive with 81-or-more receiving yards and six-or-more receptions, and he has three touchdowns receptions in the last three games.

Defensive end Nick Bosa was credited with three total pressures and a sack on 31 pass-rush attempts, earning the 49ers defense's highest overall grade. He now has eight sacks this season and 32.5 over his career, the ninth-most in franchise history.

It was linebacker Fred Warner who earned the game's highest pass-rushing grade, though. Like Bosa, he was credited with three total pressures and a sack but did so on only four pass-rushing attempts. The sack was the sixth of his career. Sunday represented Warner's fourth career game with 10-or-more tackles and one-or-more sacks.

Safety Tashaun Gipson earned his second consecutive poor grade from Pro Football Focus. His 41.1 overall grade was the lowest of any defender in the game. On the other hand, safety Jimmie Ward, once again playing in the slot, was among the five highest-graded 49ers defenders in the game, despite surrendering four catches for 40 yards on four targets. Ward had the game's second-highest tackling grade (82.6; Warner's was 82.9).
