Shanahan spoke with reporters via a conference call on Monday. No new injuries surfaced after the game. The coach added that Gray is day-to-day, which is good news for the young wideout.
Arik Armstead update
Arik Armstead has missed six games this season, including the last five. Does the coach expect his veteran defensive lineman to make his return from foot and ankle injuries on Monday night?
"He does have a chance," Shanahan said.
The coach wasn't sure when he would return to practice, though.
"He's going to continue rehabbing," Shanahan added. "It's his foot/ankle, and we'll see on Thursday when we've got a chance to practice."
Off to Mexico with a detour to Colorado
At the advice of the team's conditioning staff, the 49ers will travel to Colorado Springs on Tuesday to acclimate to the high-altitude conditions ahead of next Monday night's game against the Arizona Cardinals in Mexico City.
"We treated today like a true Monday," Shanahan said. "We just finished reviewing all the game [film]. Just finished with all the players. Tomorrow will be, basically, a off day. We'll travel there. And then that Wednesday will be a Tuesday, and we'll begin a normal week (of practice) there that Thursday. I think we head to Mexico City on Sunday."
Shanahan not expecting a suspension for Greenlaw
Shanahan is not expecting his linebacker, Dre Greenlaw, to be suspended for the helmet-to-helmet hit on Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert on Sunday night. After the game, the coach said he understood the need for the penalty but was surprised that Greenlaw was ejected from the matchup, feeling that the intent to harm was not evident.
His feelings didn't change on Monday. A reporter asked if the coach is under the impression that Greenlaw won't be suspended for the hit.
"I haven't talked to anyone, but I'm not expecting him to [be suspended]," Shanahan said. "... But yeah, I would be very surprised if he was. I feel like he's almost a first-time offender. It's not something he's done much, and I think he's pretty good at that stuff. That's why it would surprise me."
OBJ interest
There have been reports that wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. might be interested in joining the 49ers or Dallas Cowboys. A reporter asked Shanahan if that interest was mutual.
"We consider everything," Shanahan said, not wanting to add much more to that comment.
49ers put in a claim for Jerry Tillery
The Las Vegas Raiders claimed defensive lineman Jerry Tillery off waivers. They were one of eight teams that put in a claim for the former first-round pick by the Los Angeles Chargers. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the 49ers were also among the teams putting in claims.
On Sunday night, Nick Bosa was the lone starter available on the 49ers defensive lineman. The team played with backups at the other spots, with Armstead, Javon Kinlaw, and Samson Ebukam unavailable. Shanahan insists that the 49ers' claim had nothing to do with the status of Armstead and Kinlaw, though.
"Nah. He's just a good player that became available, and we wanted to take our shot at it," the coach said.
49ers work our QB, WRs
ESPN's Field Yates reports that the 49ers worked out quarterback Jacob Eason and a group of wide receivers consisting of Kawaan Baker, Ja'Marcus Bradley, Trevon Clark, Javon McKinley, and Dazz Newsome.
