The NFL announced that San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey has been named this week's FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week. He earned the honor for his performance in the team's dominant victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

McCaffrey totaled 119 rushing yards on 14 carries (8.5 average) and one rushing touchdown against the Buccaneers. He also had two receptions for 43 yards.

The running back beat out Philadelphia Eagles running back Miles Sanders (144 rushing yards on 17 attempts, 8.5 avg., 2 touchdowns vs. Giants) and Baltimore Ravens running back J.K. Dobbins (120 rushing yards on 15 carries, 8.0 avg., a touchdown vs. Steelers).

FedEx gives fans the opportunity to recognize weekly top-performing quarterbacks and running backs in games played on Thursday through Sunday through the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week Awards. Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff took home FedEx Air NFL Player of the Week honors.

By winning the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week Award, FedEx will make a $2,000 donation in McCaffrey's name to a Historically Black College or University (HBCU), which will be applied towards needs-based scholarships to deserving HBCU students.

San Francisco traded for McCaffrey in October. He has rushed for 426 yards with three touchdowns on 89 attempts while adding 35 receptions for 316 yards and three receiving touchdowns in his seven games since arriving with the 49ers. McCaffrey has 819 total rushing yards and 593 total receiving yards with nine touchdowns (5 rushing, 4 receiving) this season.
