On Thursday morning, general manager John Lynch did offer an update on his injured veteran quarterback, though.
"That's a hard one to monitor, Marcus," Lynch told KNBR's Markus Boucher and Marcus Thompson. "But I can tell you he's out of his cast now, in more of a boot, but still not walking on that. I think they wanted a good opportunity for healing early on, but he did get the hard cast off. So that's the progress, but it's not something that you can check on each and every day because the first part was just letting this thing heal. And so, we're still kind of in that mode."
The 49ers made every effort to trade Garoppolo this past offseason. However, shoulder surgery in March threw a wrench in the team's plans. Unable to facilitate a trade, San Francisco signed Garoppolo to a restructured one-year deal, keeping the quarterback as Trey Lance's backup.
Garoppolo was thrust back into the starting role when Lance suffered a season-ending ankle injury during Week 2. Then, Garoppolo went down with a broken foot in Week 13.
"Jimmy is here every day," Lynch continued. "He's in meetings. He's very into it. He's been great to Brock, as has Trey. That's nice to see. That room has always been solid here. They look out for each other. They all are competitors, but they all have each others' backs, so that's been cool."
