The San Francisco 49ers are playing the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game at Lincoln Financial Field in Pennsylvania. The team entered the game missing three players due to injuries. They are quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (foot), running back Elijah Mitchell (groin), and cornerback Ambry Thomas (ankle). All three were among San Francisco's seven inactive players.

Below are the 49ers-related in-game injury updates.

QB Brock Purdy (elbow, returned)

Quarterback Brock Purdy was injured in the first quarter on the throw that was ruled a fumble recovery by the Eagles. The training staff evaluated the rookie passer's throwing arm. Josh Johnson replaced Purdy.

Purdy entered the blue medical tent to be further examined before returning to the sideline. The medical staff was seen working on his right elbow as the game continued.

The FOX broadcast stated it was a nerve injury in Purdy's elbow, eliminating at least some of the feeling in his hand. It will likely return, but probably not today. The quarterback was listed as "questionable" to return.

Note: Purdy returned to the game. See the Josh Johnson injury update below.

QB Josh Johnson (concussion, out)

Johnson, who replaced Purdy, left the game early in the third quarter to be examined for a head injury. Running out of quarterback options, the injured Purdy re-entered the game.

Johnson eventually left for the locker room to be evaluated for a concussion and was later ruled out.
