According to OverTheCap.com, the San Francisco 49ers currently own about $9.61 million in salary-cap space, the ninth-least amount of any NFL team. Only the Broncos, Titans, Seahawks, Bills, Giants, Raiders, Buccaneers, and Chiefs have less available money.

The team with the most cap space heading into the 2023 season is the Chicago Bears, with $32.03 million. The 49ers could increase their cap space for the upcoming year with an extension for defensive end Nick Bosa, offloading some of his money in 2023 to future seasons. Most expect a new mega-deal for the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year to come around the start of training camp.

Currently, Bosa owns the fourth-highest cap figure among 49ers players in 2023. The player expected to be the team's starting quarterback during the upcoming season, former seventh-round draft pick Brock Purdy, ranks 62nd on the team with a $889,253 salary-cap hit, not high enough to count against the salary cap currently. Only the top 51 salaries count until August's roster cut down.
