Day 1 of the San Francisco 49ers training camp is officially over, as head coach Kyle Shanahan conducted a light, padless practice where the team installed primary shorter-area concepts, as well as various facets of the run game.

Both the offense and the defense had their moments on Day 1, with a ton of spotlight being shined on the quarterbacks.

Trey Lance's new mechanics

Trey Lance's new mechanics, which included a quicker throwing motion than the one displayed earlier in his career, was on display Wednesday, as he and Sam Darnold took turns in a variety of drills run by quarterbacks coach Brian Griese.

Here are other drills that Lance and Darnold were involved in, helping them with aspects like their follow-through, setting their feet, and working on different aspects of the game against air.

First on the field

Last season, safety Talanoa Hufanga made waves during training camp by appearing as the first player out on the field before practice to warm up over 30 minutes before the scheduled start of each training camp day.

Beginning that trend during his rookie season, the hard work has clearly paid off, as Hufanga was a first-team All-Pro in his first year as a full-time starter.

This offseason, Hufanga returned to the field as early as before prior to practices, but there was already a fellow teammate out there ahead of him. Who's taken the reign of being the first 49er on the field for practice?

DC Steve Wilks leading drills

Wednesday was the first training camp practice where fans saw defensive coordinator Steve Wilks run the defensive drills, as he joined the organization just a few months ago following the departure of DeMeco Ryans, who became the head coach of the Houston Texans.

Wilks was hands-on during several drills, and was especially vocal when working with the defensive backs unit. Here's a clip of him coaching his new team on Day 1 of training camp.

QB Kyle

Kyle Shanahan activates his quarterback sense every training camp when working with the defense, serving as the quarterback when the defense operates out of its shell.

However, Shanahan started his quarterback duties early this season, as he was seen tossing the ball around with his two sons during the early portion of practice.
