Kyle Shanahan would have loved to have Nick Bosa around the last two weeks. He didn't expect the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year to report, though. That's because the San Francisco 49ers are still trying to work out a new contract with the defensive end's representatives. It's unlikely Bosa will step onto a practice field before putting pen to paper.

However, Shanahan and the 49ers are confident that a deal will get done. Still, few expected it to take this long, given the team's track record of finalizing contracts closer to the start of training camp.

Is Shanahan worried that Bosa might be falling behind? Not really. Is he stressing over the situation? Also, not really.

"Everybody wants people here, and you want to do that stuff, but it doesn't affect the team as much from the D-end standpoint," Shanahan told reporters after Monday's practice. "I have as much confidence in Nick as any player I've ever been around in terms of how he prepares and everything.

"I know they're going to get it right, both sides, and I'm excited for when I do see him."

The 49ers will hold one more practice in Santa Clara, a Tuesday-morning session, before traveling to the Las Vegas area for joint practices with the Raiders on Thursday and Friday. The two teams will open their preseasons on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium.
