The San Francisco 49ers have begun their cutdown period, waiving five players: CB Nate Brooks, DL La'Darius Hamilton, DL Breeland Speaks, LB Kyahva Tezino, and DL Spencer Waege.

The 49ers are beginning to make roster moves ahead of Tuesday's 1:00 P.M. deadline to cut the roster down to 53 players, and had their first moves announced earlier today.

The news comes after the 49ers cut defensive end Taco Charlton, who was released with an injury settlement.

However, that move didn't impact the 53-man roster, as Charlton was initially on Injured Reserve, meaning his season was effectively over, as the 49ers placed him on the list ahead of the season.

Brooks, a cornerback, was signed as depth after the 49ers saw both Anthony Averett and Terrance Mitchell placed on Injured Reserve.

Hamilton, Speaks, and Waege were all defensive line depth for the team, with the latter having a potential chance to make the practice squad following cutdown date.

Tezino, a linebacker, primarily ran with the third-team defense during training camp and the preseason.
