According to Schultz, this isn't another temporary elevation. Instead, the Niners are signing him to the active roster.
"He's on the active roster now," Schultz told 49ers Webzone when asked for clarification. "He wasn't before — was only for one game."
The 49ers listed cornerback Ambry Thomas as "questionable" for Thursday night's game against the New York Giants. He is dealing with a knee injury. The team placed cornerback Samuel Womack on injured reserve this past weekend. Womack suffered an MCL injury during practice last week.
San Francisco also added cornerback Anthony Brown this week. While he could suit up against the Giants, general manager John Lynch said it would likely be in a backup role. Brown is returning from an Achilles injury sustained in December.
"Yeah, there's a reason he's available," Lynch said on KNBR. "It's that he is coming off an Achilles. But it feels like he's at a good place. We'll learn a little more here in the coming days about where exactly he's at health-wise."
