Purdy is coming off a phenomenal performance against the Arizona Cardinals. The quarterback was nearly flawless, completing 20 of his 21 pass attempts for 283 yards and a touchdown, setting a new franchise record for the highest completion percentage (95.2) in a single game.
Despite Purdy's outstanding play, some still attribute his early success to the 49ers' offensive system, downplaying the second-year quarterback's achievements. On Wednesday, head coach Kyle Shanahan had a chance to address those assertions.
"That's pretty ridiculous," Shanahan said. "You just got to watch the tape. I mean, he plays at a high level every time he's been out there. And he's done it in a lot of different situations versus a lot of different defenses, on the road, at home, in playoff games, when injured.
"You can't do all that stuff [if you're a system quarterback]. He's been out there too long. It's on tape."
Purdy has completed 81 of 112 attempts (72.3 percent) for 1,019 yards with five touchdowns while adding 24 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns on 12 carries through his four starts this season. His 49ers are one of two undefeated teams (Eagles) in the NFL.
