San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that quarterback Brock Purdy is in the concussion protocol. While he won't participate in regular practice today, he can take part in walk-throughs.

This development is noteworthy as the team prepares for its Week 8 showdown with the Cincinnati Bengals, especially considering the tight schedule they're working with following a Monday night game. San Francisco hopes to snap its two-game losing streak.

"He does have enough time [to clear the protocol before Sunday]," Shanahan said. "He's just got to go through the process."

Veteran Sam Darnold will receive the starting practice reps with Purdy sidelined.

Shanahan mentioned that Purdy's symptoms started manifesting on the plane ride back to the Bay Area after the 49ers' loss to the Minnesota Vikings. He noted that the development was "kind of a surprise" when he woke up to depart the aircraft.

In addition to Purdy, wide receiver Deebo Samuel (shoulder) and Tackle Trent Williams (ankle) will also not participate in practice. Shanahan hopes Williams can return to practice on Thursday. Samuel has already been ruled out for this weekend.

The 49ers are giving linebacker Dre Greenlaw a veteran day off, and running back Christian McCaffrey (oblique) is full go for today's practice.
