San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy participated in practice for the second consecutive day, indicating progress in his recovery from a concussion. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said his quarterback is in the final step of the concussion protocol and indicated he is on track to be cleared before Sunday's game. If he does clear the protocol, he will start against the Bengals.
For now, the 49ers listed Purdy as "questionable" for the Week 8 matchup.

Meanwhile, tackle Trent Williams has been sidelined from practice this week due to an ankle injury sustained in Week 6 against the Cleveland Browns. He is also listed as "questionable" for Sunday.
When asked how Williams is progressing, Shanahan responded, "Better than last week, but still not sure [about his status]. He's got to improve here in the next 48 hours. He can go up to kickoff, though."
Williams did not play on Monday against the Vikings.
"[The decision] was a lot harder [on Monday] because we felt if he did go, there was no chance at this week, or we definitely don't want to hurt him two weeks from now," Shanahan said. "But he also has two weeks to recover as opposed to five-and-a-half days to recover."
As expected, wide receiver Deebo Samuel has been ruled out for this weekend's matchup. He suffered a hairline fracture in his shoulder during the Browns game. The 49ers remain optimistic that Samuel will be back in action against the Jacksonville Jaguars following the bye week.
"He's doing good," Shanahan said of Samuel. "I mean, it's a little fracture, hairline fracture in his shoulder, so we got to wait for that to heal. But he's healthy enough everywhere else, so he's conditioned and working out, doing well, and hopefully that'll be good after the bye week."
