According to a report by Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report, the Baltimore Ravens and Jacksonville Jaguars were both contenders for defensive end Chase Young before the Washington Commanders accepted the San Francisco 49ers' offer of a 2024 compensatory third-round pick.

Young is entering the final year of his contract and is set to become a free agent after this season. The 49ers are counting on the former No. 2 overall pick to provide a much-needed boost to their defense, which has only managed 18 sacks this season, currently tied for 24th in the NFL.

If Young does depart after this season, San Francisco is likely to receive a 2025 compensatory third-round pick.

Young joined his new team for his first practice on Monday and is slated to start this weekend when the Jaguars host the 49ers at TIAA Bank Field.
