Head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that second-year offensive lineman Nick Zakelj suffered a torn biceps in Sunday's win over the Jacksonville Jaguars and would undergo season-ending surgery. According to the NFL transaction wire, the 49ers officially placed him on injured reserve on Wednesday.
Shanahan provided insight into the nature of Zakelj's injury, stating, "It wasn't like your normal tear. It was a little one that was high, and [he] complained about it all day. We sent him in (for an MRI), and it had a slight tear, and got a couple of opinions. They said it's only going to get worse, so we had to do the surgery."
Shanahan also ruled out guard Aaron Banks for this weekend's game. The offensive lineman sustained a turf toe injury on October 30 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Right tackle Colton McKivitz suffered ankle and knee injuries in Sunday's game. He was a limited practice participant, and his status remains day-to-day.
Below are Wednesday's practice participation reports for both the 49ers and Buccaneers, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff.
