The San Francisco 49ers worked out a familiar face for the second time in two months. According to ESPN's Field Yates, Kyle Shanahan's squad evaluated cornerback Jason Verrett, who played for the 49ers from 2019 through 2022.

The team previously worked out Verrett in September before the Houston Texans signed him to their practice squad. The Texans released the cornerback on Wednesday.

As San Francisco prepares for Sunday's clash with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Levi's Stadium, the team appears to be keeping tabs on the veteran cornerback in case a need in the defensive backfield arises.

Verrett is a year removed from the Achilles injury he sustained during a practice with the 49ers, ending his 2022 comeback from the ACL injury he suffered during Week 1 of the 2021 season.

Injuries have plagued Verrett's NFL career. His only healthy seasons were in 2015, his second year in the league, and 2020, his second season with the 49ers.
