Samuel had 138 scrimmage yards (116 receiving, 22 rushing) and three touchdowns (two receiving, one rushing) in the 49ers' 42-19 victory at Lincoln Financial Field.
"Deebo is one of the best football players I've ever seen," linebacker Fred Warner said after the game. "Performances like that don't surprise me. It's only a matter of time when he does kind of pop off like that. And people were saying things about things that he may have said before the game, but I think it's safe to say his actions spoke louder than his words."
Samuel is the fourth wide receiver since 2000 with at least 100 receiving yards, two touchdown receptions, and one rushing touchdown in a game, joining Chase Claypool (October 11, 2020), David Patten (October 21, 2001), and Javon Walker (November 5, 2006).
Quarterback Brock Purdy noted that Samuel practices hard consistently, adding, "But going into this game, yeah, he had a little something, little history with obviously the way things went down last year in the playoff game. And he's definitely looked forward to this game coming back into this place. So he was pumped about it and stoked and ready to go. And man, all I had to do is give him the ball and some space and he made the rest happen."
This is Samuel's third Offensive Player of the Week award, with the others coming in Weeks 8 and 10 of the 2021 season. He is the second 49ers wide receiver to earn the award at least three times, joining Jerry Rice, who earned it 12 times. Samuel is the second former South Carolina wide receiver to earn the honor three times, joining Sterling Sharpe.
