San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed reporters during a conference call on Tuesday, delivering injury updates from the team's regular-season finale against the Los Angeles Rams.

Defensive end Clelin Ferrell, who exited Sunday's game early due to a knee injury, is expected to miss the 49ers' first playoff game during the weekend of January 20.

"Clelin Ferrell, with his knee, he's going to miss a few weeks," Shanahan stated. "It's possible to get him back sometime in the playoffs."

Running back Christian McCaffrey, who didn't play against the Rams after sustaining a calf injury, will not practice this week but is anticipated to return to practice next week ahead of the 49ers' first playoff game.

The team will hold two practices before giving players the weekend off. Those sessions will be on Thursday and Friday.

Safeties Ji'Ayir Brown (knee) and Tashaun Gipson (quadricep) are expected to return to practice this week, alongside cornerback Ambry Thomas (hand). The team plans to open the practice window for safety George Odum (torn biceps) this week, making a return for the Divisional Playoff round possible.

Wide receiver Jauan Jennings is now out of the concussion protocol after sustaining a head injury on December 17.

The coach provided several other injury updates. Defensive tackle Arik Armstead (foot, knee) is expected to practice this week. Armstead has not appeared in a game since December 3.

"Armstead's looking good," Shanahan said. "We should get him back in practice this week. ... He's doing better. He looked good today, and that was the test, and that's why we're going to get him into practice Thursday. Hopefully, it goes well, and we'll get him in a little bit Friday [too]."

Defensive end Drake Jackson (knee) is not yet healthy enough for activation off injured reserve.

"I don't think that's an option right now," Shanahan added.

Safety Tayler Hawkins, who suffered a wrist injury late in the game against the Rams, will require surgery. Offensive lineman Jon Feliciano is day-to-day due to his back injury.

Tight end George Kittle missed Sunday's game due to back spasms but is improving. Linebacker Dre Greenlaw was also sidelined due to Achilles tendonitis.

"We'll be smart with him this week," Shanahan said of Greenlaw.

Regarding the team's health heading into the playoffs, Shanahan said, "I think it looks good. I think, really, our goal was to get out of that game healthy, and got some guys banged up, but I think [Ferrell] is the one that we're going to lose most likely for at least a game. After that, we didn't lose anyone else in the game, and it looks like we're getting most of these guys back that missed that game."
