The San Francisco 49ers return to the Super Bowl for the eighth time in franchise history and the first time since the 2019 season as they travel to Las Vegas, NV, to take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII. The 49ers, who are five-time Super Bowl champions (XVI, XIX, XXIII, XXIV & XXIX), look to tie the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers for the most Super Bowl wins in NFL history.

The 49ers are coming off a 34-31 victory against the Detroit Lions in the NFC Championship Game, marking the 38th playoff win for the franchise, the most in NFL history. QB Brock Purdy led the offense by completing 20 of his 31 passing attempts for 267 yards and one touchdown to WR Brandon Aiyuk, who tallied three catches for 68 yards on the evening. RB Christian McCaffrey registered 132 yards from scrimmage and two rushing touchdowns, while RB Elijah Mitchell added four carries and a three-yard rushing touchdown.

On defense, the 49ers were led by DL Nick Bosa, who tallied two sacks of Lions QB Jared Goff. LB Fred Warner added a team-high 13 tackles on the evening, bringing his career postseason total to 84 tackles, which is the most tackles in postseason franchise history.
