Two San Francisco 49ers players have swept the FedEx Players of the Year awards, recognizing their outstanding performances during the 2023 season. Quarterback Brock Purdy has been honored as the recipient of FedEx Air Player of the Year while running back Christian McCaffrey has been named the FedEx Ground Player of the Year.

These two players have made history as the first teammates to win both awards in the same season in the 21-year history of the program.

In his second NFL season, Purdy completed 69.4 percent of his pass attempts for 4,280 yards, with 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, while also adding 144 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns on 39 carries through 16 starts. Purdy set a franchise record for the most single-season passing yards, and his 113.0 passer rating led the NFL.

San Francisco selected Purdy out of Iowa State with the last overall pick (No. 262) in the 2022 NFL Draft.

In his second season with the 49ers, McCaffrey carried the football 272 times for a league-leading 1,459 yards and 14 rushing touchdowns through 16 starts. He added 67 receptions for 564 yards with seven receiving touchdowns. McCaffrey's 2,023 scrimmage yards led the NFL, and his 21 total touchdowns tied for first in the league. This season marked his second time surpassing 2,000 scrimmage yards over his illustrious career.

San Francisco acquired McCaffrey via a trade with the Carolina Panthers during the 2022 season.

On Sunday, these two players will lead the 49ers against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 58. FedEx is making a $20,000 donation in each of the winners' names to an HBCU selected by each player.
