"He's had a hell of a week. Brock's pumped up," Shanahan said via Thursday's pool report.
Thursday's practice at UNLV was the team's most rigorous session of the week, with just one more practice remaining before Sunday's clash between the 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 58. The team's Friday sessions are typically lighter.
Initially, the intensity of Thursday's practice wasn't apparent to left tackle Trent Williams. It wasn't until he overheard teammates commenting on the intensity that it struck him.
"It was super intense," Williams told reporters at the team hotel. "... We were going pretty hard. But I just think it's the same way with anybody, right? You get to this day, we're practicing with a purpose at this point. We know what. We know what's at stake. We know what we've got a chance to do."
When Purdy steps onto the football field on Sunday, he will become the third-youngest quarterback to start in a Super Bowl. If the 49ers beat the Chiefs, he will become the second-youngest quarterback to hoist the Lombardi Trophy, trailing only Ben Roethlisberger.
The 49ers enter Sunday's game in good health. While tight end George Kittle and defensive tackle Arik Armstead were limited for their second consecutive practice, both are expected to be full-go on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium. Kittle has been dealing with a toe injury, while Armstead continues to work through ongoing foot and knee issues.
The 49ers and Chiefs kick off at 3:30 p.m. PT on Sunday.
