San Francisco selected Woerner (6-5, 241) out of Georgia in the sixth round (No. 190 overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft. According to Pro Football Reference, he recorded three receptions for 32 yards in 17 game appearances (two starts) this past season.
Last year, the 49ers drafted two tight ends—Cameron Latu in the third round and Brayden Willis in the seventh round. Latu spent his entire rookie season on injured reserve after undergoing meniscus surgery. Veteran tight end Ross Dwelley, who landed on injured reserve on January 6 due to a high-ankle sprain, is also set to become an unrestricted free agent.
Woerner, 26, has caught 11 passes for 120 yards in 65 game appearances (seven starts) over his four NFL seasons.
