The Cleveland Browns drafted Elliott (6-4, 302) as a third-round pick (No. 88 overall) out of Missouri in 2020. Last season, he registered 21 tackles, three tackles for a loss, three quarterback hits, 2.5 sacks, and a pass defensed in 17 game appearances (14 starts) with the Browns, per Pro Football Reference.
In his four NFL seasons, the 26-year-old Elliott has recorded 98 tackles, eight tackles for a loss, 10 quarterback hits, five sacks, and four passes defensed in 66 game appearances, with 35 starts. Notably, he has appeared in all 34 games over the past two seasons.
The 49ers are undergoing some renovations along the defensive line. Elliott could potentially replace Arik Armstead, who will reportedy be released after negotiations to restructure his contract fell apart. Additionally, defensive linemen Clelin Ferrell and Javon Kinlaw plan to sign with other teams.
Elliott becomes the third impending free agent defensive lineman the 49ers plan to sign. On Monday, the team agreed to terms on two-year deals with defensive ends Leonard Floyd and Yetur Gross-Matos.
