"Nick's great, man," Warner recently told NFL Network's Steve Wyche and Judy Battista. "I love the hire. Nick has been a part of this organization for a couple of years now and has been heavily involved with the linebackers, and he's played the game for a long time."
Sorensen, a former safety, played with the St. Louis Rams, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Cleveland Browns over his 10 NFL seasons. He began his coaching career in 2013 with the Seattle Seahawks, serving in various roles before spending a season with the Jaguars in 2021 and then joining the 49ers.
"So he's just a true player's coach through and through, and he knows what it's supposed to look like," Warner continued. "I think he's obviously been around our scheme for a long time, so we'll be able to shore up some of those things that we were kind of lacking in last year and get back to playing dominant defensive Forty-Niner football. That's been the standard ever since I've been here.
"And just because it has been the standard for a long time doesn't mean that you're guaranteed anything going into a season. You have to uphold and continue to push that standard. I know that we're going to do that. Nick's going to do that for us as our leader in that room, and I think he'll do a great job."
Warner is coming off an impressive season, recording 132 tackles, 2.5 sacks, a career-high four interceptions, and 11 passes defensed, per Pro Football Reference. His 2023 campaign earned the linebacker his third All-Pro and Pro Bowl selections.
