Breece Hall and Brock Purdy were teammates at Iowa State. The New York Jets drafted Hall, a running back, with the 36th overall pick in 2022. Two hundred twenty-six selections later, the San Francisco 49ers made Purdy the last overall pick. By the end of his rookie season, Purdy was the starting quarterback and the team's quarterback of the future.

On Monday, September 9, the two will face each other for the first time when the 49ers host the Jets in Week 1.

Hall is eager to earn bragging rights over his former quarterback and knows the competitive Purdy will do everything possible to secure a victory.

When asked if he's spoken to Purdy since the NFL released the schedule in May, Hall responded, "Nah, I haven't yet. Me and him are actually overly competitive with each other, so even in college, when we played Madden and stuff, whoever won, we wouldn't talk to each other for the rest of the day. So that's how it's going to be until after the game."

Hall is excited about the contest and knows his cousin, 49ers legend Roger Craig, will be in attendance.

"I know he's gonna be talking stuff to me before the game and everything, even though I know he's gonna be rooting for me and everything, so it's gonna be cool," Hall told reporters.

As for the matchup itself, Hall has great respect for the championship roster the 49ers have built.

"And playing the 49ers, Brock was my roommate in college and everything, and [RB Christian] McCaffrey, I used to watch his highlights all the time," Hall shared. "If you go on my YouTube, and you look at Christian McCaffrey, and my history and everything, the first 10 videos are his highlights and everything.

"So it's going to be cool going against [LB] Fred Warner. And then the defense they have over there, it's going to be a great challenge for me just to see where I stand, see where our offense is, and I think it's going to be fun."
