Last week, the San Francisco 49ers welcomed their latest rookie draft class along with several signed undrafted free agents. Today, the team is gearing up to kick off training camp by welcoming its veteran players. Head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch are scheduled to speak to reporters at 11 a.m. PT.

The big question is whether wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk will show up. Aiyuk requested a trade last week after contract negotiations failed to progress to his satisfaction. He subjected himself to approximately $100,000 in fines last month by skipping the 49ers' mandatory minicamp. This fine total will increase if he is a no-show in Santa Clara this week.

The 49ers are coming off a heartbreaking Super Bowl defeat and are looking to rebound for one last championship run with this core of talented playmakers. After this season, quarterback Brock Purdy will become one of the highest-paid players in the NFL, limiting San Francisco's salary cap flexibility and possibly forcing some tough roster decisions.

The 49ers will hold 10 open training camp practices, with the first on Thursday, July 25, at the SAP Performance Facility next to Levi's Stadium. San Francisco's first preseason game is against the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium on August 10. The team will open the regular season at home against the New York Jets on September 9.
