Defensive end Nick Bosa joined KNBR on Tuesday morning to discuss the newcomers. With the 49ers kicking off training camp practices last week and padded sessions this week, the former NFL Defensive Player of the Year had ample opportunity to evaluate Floyd and Gross-Matos.
"I'm super excited about those guys," Bosa shared. "I think they're picking up the scheme really well. Obviously, Floyd's proven himself in the league over many years, so he's just continuing to get better, especially when you implement him into the scheme.
"I think guys like him, who are super athletic and long, when they come play in a scheme like this, it brings the best out of them."
Floyd has recorded at least nine sacks in each of the past four seasons, including 10.5 in 2020 with the Los Angeles Rams and 10.5 last season with the Buffalo Bills. The 49ers hope that kind of production continues in 2024, providing a perfect complement opposite Bosa along the edge.
"And then, same with Yetur," Bosa continued. "He's huge. Way bigger than I expected. He could set an edge, and he's going to help us a lot."
Gross-Matos secured a career-high 4.5 sacks while playing 63 percent of the defensive snaps last season and has 13 sacks over his four NFL seasons, all spent with the Carolina Panthers.
