According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the 49ers are signing Matt Breida. The running back began his NFL career in the Bay Area when San Francisco signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2017.

Breida spent his first three seasons with the 49ers before playing for the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, and, most recently, the New York Giants over the past two seasons.

In his seven NFL seasons, Breida has amassed 2,652 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on 575 carries. Additionally, he has caught 120 passes for 935 yards and six receiving touchdowns.

The veteran running back's best statistical season came with the 49ers in 2018, when he recorded 814 yards and three touchdowns on the ground and 27 receptions for 261 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns.

The 49ers have been without rookie running back Isaac Guerendo, who suffered a significant hamstring injury early in training camp.
