The San Francisco 49ers have officially signed defensive lineman Nick Williams to a one-year deal. To make room on the roster, the team released linebacker Ezekiel Turner. News of Williams' signing was first reported on Tuesday night by Chase Daniel of The Athletic.

The 49ers Communications staff provided the following rundown.



Williams (6-4, 310) was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the seventh round (223rd overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft. Throughout his 11-year NFL career with the Steelers (2013-14), Kansas City Chiefs (2014-16), Miami Dolphins (2016), Chicago Bears (2018-19), Detroit Lions (2020-21), New York Giants (2022) and Los Angeles Chargers (2023), Williams has appeared in 97 games (48 starts) and registered 157 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, seven passes defensed and four fumble recoveries. He also appeared in two postseason contests and tallied one tackle. In 2023, Williams appeared in 14 games (six starts) and totaled 16 tackles, seven tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries, and 1.0 sack with the Chargers.

A 34-year-old native of Birmingham, AL, Williams attended Samford University (2008-12), where he appeared in 40 games (22 starts) and registered 66 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks, three passes defensed, and one forced fumble.


Turner (6-1, 230) originally signed with the team on March 20, 2024.
