While covering several things across his colorful football career, including the two-time Pro Bowler's post-NFL acting career, the topic of fellow tight end George Kittle seemed like a natural one to bring up, and Davis had nothing but lofty praise for the player who has managed to pick up where he left off in that same No. 85.
"Yeah, George Kittle, I think of him as a magician," Davis said. "I watch him. One thing that he does really well is he gets from A to B, meaning A to B from the time you catch that ball, you put your foot down, you get upfield, get the first down or score a touchdown. And that's one thing they teach us ... and he does that really, really well. He's tough. He's relentless. He uses his hands. He just does everything the right way. He's that tight end that you want. And if I'm going to get a tight end in the draft, I'm looking at someone who's just like George Kittle, who can do it all."
Davis went on to discuss the similarities between the two.
"The similarities, I would say, is maybe being able to run after the catch. Yeah, he has a unique ability to be able to do that. Probably better than me."
Making things happen after the ball is in their hands is probably one of the first things that would come to mind as a similarity. And while Davis didn't touch on this, another trait the two seem to share simply based on their body of work in a 49ers uniform, is a pretty distinct level of noticeable emotion.
Nonetheless, being referred to as a "magician" of all things will likely be more than enough to get Kittle revved up and going at the podium should someone from the media toss the seemingly obvious red meat his way.
All in all, the interview with Kyle Brandt and Co. was a highly entertaining listen, particularly once the laughs got going while discussing former 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh and his signature khakis, along with an anecdote about the animated—and famously intense—Harbaugh quite literally being fully suited up in uniform from head to toe.
On a final note, for 49ers fans out there who might be looking for some extra juice during this lull between the end of preseason play and Week 1, taking in "The Catch III" and all of its dramatic glory could very well do the trick.
