Inactives:
- OL Ben Bartch
- QB Joshua Dobbs
- S Talanoa Hufanga (knee)
- CB Darrell Luter
- LB Dee Winters (ankle)
On Friday, the 49ers ruled out running back Christian McCaffrey (calf, Achilles) for Sunday's game against the Vikings. Hufanga was listed as doubtful, while Winters was questionable.
On Saturday, the 49ers placed McCaffrey on injured reserve, giving him more time to recover from the calf strain and Achilles tendinitis that caused him to miss most of training camp and the preseason. McCaffrey will be eligible to return for the team's Week 6 matchup on the road against the Seattle Seahawks.

The 49ers only have five inactive players for Week 2 because they have yet to make a corresponding roster move after placing McCaffrey on injured reserve.
Additionally, the 49ers elevated safety Tracy Walker from the practice squad for the game. He will return to the practice squad afterward. This marks Walker's second elevation, leaving the 49ers with just one more opportunity to promote him before they must either sign him to the active roster or pass him through waivers to re-sign him to the practice squad.
