On Friday, general manager John Lynch appeared on Bay Area radio station KNBR and expressed optimism about Gross-Matos' recovery, noting that he could return soon.
As for Hargrave, his recovery is expected to take longer. However, the 49ers have not ruled out his possibility of returning this season.
"Hargrave, potentially, if we can get ourselves in the playoffs, in the postseason, there's a potential chance that he might come back," Lynch said. "I know he's working towards that."
Before his injury, Hargrave recorded seven tackles, including one for a loss, and a sack over three games.
In the meantime, Lynch believes the defensive line has sufficient depth to manage until reinforcements arrive. While he didn't dismiss the possibility of a trade to strengthen the defensive front, he expressed confidence in the current roster.
"We have enough guys," Lynch stated. "Evan Anderson, undrafted free agent who we really coveted and has played really well for us when he's had the opportunity. He came up to our 53 this week. Kalia Davis, you saw him making some contributions. Maliek Collins has been outstanding all year. Jordan Elliott. Just speaking of the guys on the interior, we've got enough guys to go."
