Injuries have plagued the 49ers this season, contributing to their 4-4 record heading into the bye week. Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is sidelined with a season-ending knee injury, while the defensive line has struggled despite the addition of Leonard Floyd. Defensive tackle Javon Hargrave is also on injured reserve with a triceps injury, though he could return if the 49ers make a deep playoff run.
"I think when you're looking at a trade deadline, we've taken advantage of it in a number of the years in which we've been here," Lynch explained. "It's been really good to us. It's just got to be a fit, and you're always calling and receiving calls."
Lynch noted that this season feels different, as the team expects several key players to return from injury soon. Among them is running back Christian McCaffrey, who hasn't played this season due to Achilles tendinitis but may begin practicing as soon as Monday, with a possible return on November 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Wide receiver Jauan Jennings has missed the last two games due to a hip injury but is also expected back next week. At the same time, several players on injured reserve, including offensive lineman Jon Feliciano, linebacker Dre Greenlaw, defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos, and safety Talanoa Hufanga, may return later in the season.
Kicker Jake Moody is another player with a potential return date against the Buccaneers.
"There's a lot of really good players that we can get back to strengthen this team," Lynch continued. "And we loved our team coming into the season. Not where we want to be. We're 4-4, but we've got a lot in front of us, and we're just going to take it week by week. And one thing this team has shown the ability under [head coach] Kyle [Shanahan] to do is get better throughout the course of the season and play our best ball when it matters most.
"I do look at that injury list and say, 'Hey, we've got a chance. … We've got a chance to get a lot of these guys back, and that can buoy our team.' And that's as good as any trade we could make because these guys are familiar with what we do, how we do it."
Although the 49ers will continue considering trade options, Lynch emphasized, "Nothing's imminent right now. I will tell everyone that. But if something does come together here—the trade deadline's on election day, interesting how they did that—but if anything comes by then, that makes sense, it can make us a better football team, fits with our financial position, and all those things, then we'll certainly pull the trigger."
