San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan joined Bay Area radio station KNBR on Thursday afternoon, where he was asked about the status of running back Christian McCaffrey. Shanahan expressed optimism about McCaffrey's progress, noting he feels good about his potential return.

McCaffrey, sidelined by Achilles tendinitis, has yet to make his 2024 season debut. However, it sounds increasingly likely that he will suit up for Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium.

The 49ers opened McCaffrey's practice window this week, hinting they might activate him off injured reserve in time for the weekend matchup.

"I do feel good one way or another," Shanahan joked, trying to avoid revealing too much about McCaffrey's availability. "It's been two good days. I'm just kind of messing around, but he's been awesome these last two days, so hopefully, that continues to go well, and expect to get him out there.

"You never know for a setback or anything, but these two days have been great, and expect to see him out there."

The 49ers, currently holding a 4-4 record, are aiming to secure back-to-back wins for the first time this season after defeating the Dallas Cowboys before their bye week.
