The San Francisco 49ers announced they have opened safety Talanoa Hufanga's practice window, giving the team 21 days to activate him from injured reserve.

Hufanga, sidelined since October 9 with a wrist injury, missed the first two games of the season before appearing in two contests, recording eight tackles.

The 49ers will ease Hufanga back into action, with the safety set to participate as a limited practice participant on Wednesday. Head coach Kyle Shanahan noted that Hufanga will practice with a cast on his hand.

Hufanga is in his fourth NFL season and is slated to become an unrestricted free agent during the upcoming offseason, making his return a crucial development for his future.
