Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk had stirred the conversation earlier in the week by suggesting that the Chicago Bears should consider contacting the 49ers about a potential trade for Shanahan.
Florio clarified that there's no indication of tension between the 49ers and their head coach, but suggested that, after multiple near-misses in pursuit of a championship, Shanahan might benefit from a change of scenery. Florio likened it to Andy Reid's success with the Kansas City Chiefs after leaving the Philadelphia Eagles.
When asked about the chatter, Shanahan didn't mince words. He dismissed the idea of leaving San Francisco and reaffirmed his commitment to the organization.
"I don't want to be any place in the world more than here, and my family feels just as strong, if not a lot stronger," Shanahan told reporters. "You guys are going to have to kick me out of here. There's no way I'm making that decision."
Last week, general manager John Lynch admitted that he found the rumors amusing.
"I sit back, and I try to be focused, but I've found the whole discussion on Kyle and some of the stuff rather comical," Lynch said. "We have won four of the last five division championships. We've been in two Super Bowls.
"Look, the standard here is to win championships, and we've fallen short of that. I understand. But we have an excellent head coach. And the fact people are talking about stuff like that, I do find it comical."
Shanahan and Lynch inked multi-year contract extensions before the 2023 season. Despite this injury-plagued campaign falling short of expectations, it seems unlikely that the team would contemplate parting ways with either Shanahan or Lynch.
