Schefter: Isaac Guerendo expected to play in 49ers-Lions matchup

San Francisco 49ers running back Isaac Guerendo, sidelined for last Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins due to hamstring and foot injuries, has been limited in practice this week. Despite the setbacks, head coach Kyle Shanahan has expressed optimism about the rookie's availability for Monday night's contest against the Detroit Lions, a rematch of last season's NFC Championship Game.

ESPN's Adam Schefter added to that optimism, reporting that Guerendo is expected to play in the primetime matchup.


The 49ers have one final practice—a Saturday afternoon session—before their Week 17 contest at Levi's Stadium. Guerendo has stepped into the starting lineup as injuries have decimated the team's running back group. Christian McCaffrey, Jordan Mason, and Elijah Mitchell are all unavailable.

Drafted in the fourth round, Guerendo has made the most of his opportunities, amassing 381 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 73 carries this season. His impressive 5.2 yards-per-carry underscores his importance as the 49ers look to finish the season on a strong note.
