The San Francisco 49ers have announced that they have completed an interview with Detroit Lions assistant special teams coach Jett Modkins for the team's vacant special teams coordinator position.

The interview comes after the 49ers parted ways with special teams coordinator Brian Schneider, who had been a member of head coach Kyle Shanahan's staff since 2022.

Modkins has been with the Lions since 2021, working under special teams coordinator Dave Fipp. He also has a personal connection to the 49ers, as his father, Curtis Modkins, served as the team's offensive coordinator in 2016. The interview was reportedly conducted virtually.
