On Thursday, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reported that San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was "likely" to do something he hasn't done since 2020—attend the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

However, just a day later, reports emerged that Shanahan is expected to keep his streak alive, as he's now expected to skip next week's event and remain in the Bay Area with his coaching staff. Barrows acknowledged that Shanahan "changed his mind."

In defense of Barrows' earlier report, he clearly stated, "I don't think it's set in stone yet."

In case there was any doubt, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area clarified that Shanahan will likely sit this one out, with only general manager John Lynch and anyone he brings from his scouting department representing the 49ers in Indianapolis.

As previously reported, Lynch is scheduled to hold a press conference on Wednesday, February 26, to answer questions from the media and attendees. He is also expected to conduct a more private media session with Bay Area reporters, as he does annually.
