A year ago, the 49ers asked their fullback to take a pay cut, which he reluctantly did. There were reports that the 49ers asked him to take another pay cut this off-season, but the fullback declined. The team then cut him on Tuesday, adding him to a long list of players 49ers' departures this offseason.
Some believed the 49ers' decision to move on from the Pro Bowl fullback signaled a shift in offensive philosophy from Head Coach Kyle Shanahan. But Juszczyk's return to the 49ers may say otherwise. Juszczyk, who had 19 catches for 200 yards and two touchdowns in 2024, had drawn interest from the Pittsburgh Steelers but chose to re-sign with the 49ers, where he is close to many of his teammates, especially tight end George Kittle, who was drafted in 2017.
Juszczyk's wife, Kristin, who has become a star in her own right, posted on Instagram how happy the couple is to remain in San Francisco. She wrote, "This past week has really made Kyle and I reflect on our past 8 years in the Bay. We grew up here. We turned friends into family here. We won championships here, and we lost championships here. We feel so incredibly blessed to have called the bay home for the past 8 years. It's truly been the best years of our lives. Kyle's curtain isn't closed just yet, and we couldn't be more happy and emotional to stay home! We're forever Faithful."
After Juszczyk's release, Kittle looked to become the 49ers' longest-tenured player. But he is undoubtedly happy to give that title back to his teammate.
