The San Francisco 49ers have struggled to make a splash this offseason, watching from the sidelines as other teams strengthened their rosters in free agency. The Bay Area team is undergoing a significant roster overhaul, shedding future financial commitments ahead of quarterback Brock Purdy's expected massive contract extension.

Pro Football Focus analyst Mason Cameron released the analytics site's latest power rankings, which reflect the impact of recent free-agency moves. The 49ers find themselves ranked in the bottom half of the NFL at No. 17.

"A wave of key departures made for a difficult free-agency period for the 49ers," Cameron wrote. "Deebo Samuel, Aaron Banks and Dre Greenlaw were among those who found new teams, while San Francisco made few notable additions. The lack of movement is likely tied to the looming contract extension for Brock Purdy."

The 49ers saw several key veterans depart for other teams, including fan favorites like linebacker Dre Greenlaw. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel was traded to the Washington Commanders, and the defensive line underwent a significant shakeup with the departures of Javon Hargrave, Leonard Floyd, and Maliek Collins—holes the team will need to address in the draft.

San Francisco's offseason additions have been modest. The team brought in players like quarterback Mac Jones and wide receiver Demarcus Robinson to add some depth, but no headline-worthy signings have been made.

"Without many key contributors, the 49ers will have to navigate the NFC West at a disadvantage," Cameron continued. "However, with elite talents like Trent Williams, Nick Bosa and a healthy Christian McCaffrey, they still have enough firepower to remain competitive."

Despite their offseason struggles, the 49ers, who finished last in the NFC West last season, aren't the lowest-ranked team in the division. The Seattle Seahawks sit just behind them at No. 18, while the Arizona Cardinals rank at No. 20.

Unsurprisingly, the reigning NFC West champions, the Los Angeles Rams, are ranked eight spots above the 49ers at No. 9.
