Among the notable losses are linebacker Dre Greenlaw, wide receiver Deebo Samuel, cornerback Charvarius Ward, guard Aaron Banks, and safety Talanoa Hufanga. The defensive line also took a hit with the departures of Javon Hargrave, Leonard Floyd, and Maliek Collins.
Dajani highlighted only two key moves—signing tight end Luke Farrell and re-signing fullback Kyle Juszczyk, who returned after being released. The disparity between these losses and the lack of significant additions led Dajani to give the 49ers an "F," the lowest grade earned by any team.
"The 49ers have had the worst offseason, and the list of talent they've lost over the past few weeks is incredibly long," Dajani explained. "As of now, Luke Farrell is the prized signing of this class. General manager John Lynch says the 49ers have a plan and that 'big things are coming our way.' I guess that means the Brock Purdy extension?"
Purdy's extension is indeed one of the "big things" in San Francisco's pipeline, Lynch stated during a conversation with The Athletic's Matt Barrows at Stanford's Pro Day this week. The team is also preparing for future contract negotiations with tight end George Kittle and linebacker Fred Warner.
"The bottom line is you're always looking at years out (from now)," Lynch said. "And we forecast it and we've got some big things coming our way. And you have to clear the requisite room to be able to do that. And you don't want to get to a point where you have to do things to keep your roster afloat. You want to have that flexibility."
Despite the tough offseason so far, Lynch reassured fans that the front office has a plan—and it starts in about a month.
"We've got this thing called the draft, and we've got a lot of picks," Lynch said. "And I think the thing the fans should know is, we have a plan. And we're gonna execute that plan. And we're excited about the opportunity."
