NFL insider Tom Pelissero appeared on The Rich Eisen Show on Friday. He was asked whether Purdy's contract talks or Micah Parsons' negotiations with the Dallas Cowboys were more likely to resolve soon.
"I would say it's Brock Purdy because my understanding is the 49ers are just simply much further along in the Brock Purdy process," Pelissero responded. "They've had negotiations. They have gone back and forth. It does not sound like anything is imminent or even close right now. With Brock Purdy, the question is just where should those numbers be?"
While Purdy didn't post record-breaking numbers last season as he did during his 2023 campaign, Pelissero pointed out that, considering the challenges of last season—including losing several key contributors to injuries—Purdy still performed at a high level.
"If you look at the advanced metrics, Brock Purdy, in a lot of categories, was still like a top-five quarterback in the NFL," Pelissero said.
He also noted that head coach Kyle Shanahan has complete confidence in Purdy. With the coaching staff and locker room believing in him, the only question remaining is Purdy's value.
"Is that a $60 million-a-year deal?" Pelissero asked. "I would not think this is Brock Purdy coming in well off of that number. The salary cap has grown since [Cowboys QB] Dak Prescott signed his contract.
"Purdy has the numbers. He's got the public support of the franchise. It just seems like this one could move faster."
