However, concerns eased at LSU's Pro Day this week, where NFL personnel remeasured Campbell's arms at exactly 33 inches.
"For two years, nobody had any measurements on me and nobody said anything about my play," Campbell said at the Pro Day. "So now all of a sudden, an arm length decides if I'm a good player or not? I think it's BS."
Josh Edwards of CBS Sports released a three-round mock draft, and projects Campbell as the second offensive lineman off the board, with Missouri's Armand Membou going to the New York Jets at No. 7. Edwards has the San Francisco 49ers selecting Campbell at No. 11, providing a boost to an offensive line anchored by a 36-year-old Trent Williams.
"Will Campbell's arm length seems to change by the day, so he could play a variety of positions in San Francisco," Edwards wrote. "The 49ers would probably play him at guard initially but he could also be the heir apparent to Trent Williams in the Bay Area."
Williams remains one of the NFL's top tackles, but an ankle injury sidelined him for the final seven games of last season. While he plans to return in 2025, his long-term future remains uncertain.
Campbell (6-6, 319) posted a career-high 80.6 pass-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus in 2024, allowing just two sacks and 18 pressures over 558 pass-blocking snaps. His performance earned him first-team Associated Press All-American and first-team All-SEC honors.
The only concern might be that Campbell's run-blocking grade dropped from 84.9 in 2023 to 69.7 in 2024, contributing to a career-low 72.2 overall grade. Still, Campbell's talent suggests he has the potential to thrive at the pro level and enjoy a long NFL career.
In the second round, Edwards has the 49ers selecting Texas A&M defensive end Nic Scourton at No. 43. In the third round, he projects the team to continue fortifying its defensive front by selecting Texas defensive tackle Vernon Broughton at No. 75 before adding Washington State wide receiver Kyle Williams at No. 100.
