The Star-Ledger reports that the San Francisco 49ers are scheduled to meet with unrestricted free-agent quarterback David Carr (Giants) this weekend.

Carr played in six games last season completing 21 of 33 passes for 225 yards and a touchdown.

Carr has been in the league for eight seasons and was a college standout with Fresno State. He has not started a game since 2007 with Carolina.

If signed, Carr would likely be in camp for depth and competition. The 49ers have already stated that Alex Smith is their man for 2010 and the team also has Shaun Hill and last year's fifth-round selection, Nate Davis. While Smith and Davis are likely safe, one has to wonder what this move means for Hill, who was the starter going into week one in 2009.
