There has not been much news on the Nnamdi Asomugha front since earlier this morning when Michael Lombardi of NFL Network reported that the competition for the free agent cornerback's services were between the New York Jets and the San Francisco 49ers.

More recently, ESPN's John Clayton says, "don't count the 49ers out of the Nnamdi sweepstakes" on his Twitter account (@ClaytonESPN).

Earlier today, Lombardi said, "they are in it strong." "I am sure Houston is involved as well in Asomugha, but it sounds like SF and NY are in the lead right now."

The Dallas Cowboys have also shown interest in Asomugha.

Asomugha is the biggest name in free agency this year. Reports throughout the day have said that while San Francisco may be able to offer Asomugha more money and the ability to stay in familiar territory, the New York Jets offer him a chance at a championship.

Earlier today, it was reported that the 49ers have informed cornerback Nate Clements that he would be released. This could be seen as a move to make room for Asomugha's salary.
