Dave Krieger of the Rocky Mountain News reports that the Denver Broncos are not doing much to disguise their fondness for Maryland tight end Vernon Davis, a 6-foot-3, 250-pound tight end expected to be among the first six picks of the NFL Draft. If the Broncos trade up in the draft, it will be to get Davis. The Broncos understand they would have to trade up to at least the fifth pick because the San Francisco 49ers are widely expected to take Davis at No. 6, if he gets that far.

Team's remaining free agents

The 49ers have eight remaining free agents; one exclusive rights free agent, one restricted, five unrestricted and three that were cut. Free safety Mike Adams heads the list of remaining free agents.
