According to 49ers.com, the San Francisco 49ers have signed quarterback Shaun Hill. Hill spent the final four games of the 2005 season with the Minnesota Vikings. He was originally signed by the Vikings as a rookie free agent out of Maryland in 2002 and was allocated to NFL Europe in the spring of 2003 with the Amsterdam Admirals.

The 49ers also claimed linebacker Andre Torrey off of waivers and waived safety Arnold Parker.

Team not interested in two free agents

Roger Phillips, of the Oakland Tribune, reports that although the 49ers are thin in the secondary, 49ers' personnel chief Scot McCloughan indicated the 49ers are not interested in a pair of free agent cornerbacks, CBs Will Peterson (Giants) and Dennis Weathersby (Bengals).

Sargent hired

49ers.com reports the San Francisco 49ers have hired Bob Sargent as senior manager of broadcasting. Sargent will manage the team's broadcast partnerships, in-house radio broadcasts, the 49ers new Hispanic Radio Network and 49ers television programming.

Gilmore impressing

Matthew Barrow, of the Sacramento Bee, reports San Francisco 49ers WR Bryan Gilmore has been catching the eye of head coach Mike Nolan. So far Nolan likes what he sees from the 6-foot, 193-pounder. "He's certainly a speed receiver. He can stretch the field," he said. "The key will be playing as fast in pads as he does in shorts."

Battle will be looked at as punt returner; when healthy

Matthew Barrow, of the Sacramento Bee, reports San Francisco 49ers WR Arnaz Battle (knee) will be worked into the punt returner rotation, but he sat out Friday's practice session, June 2, after spraining his knee. The injury is not considered serious.
