The San Francisco 49ers' soon-to-be free agent safety, Dashon Goldson, said on Twitter yesterday that there has been no progress on a new deal between himself and the 49ers.
Goldson will become a free agent starting on Tuesday, March 12 at 1 PM, when he can sign with any team. Teams will be able to begin negotiations with his agent tonight at 9 PM. However, he will not be able to begin any visits to other teams until free agency officially begins on Tuesday.
Drafted by the 49ers in the 4th round of the 2007 NFL Draft, Goldson has played six seasons with the team. During that time, he has recorded 346 tackles, 3 sacks, 14 interceptions, 5 forced fumbles and a touchdown.
Goldson, a two-time Pro Bowler, is expected to be the top safety available in free agency. In recent years, the 49ers have been known not to overpay for their free agents and may be willing to let Goldson hit the open market. The team could have used the franchise tag on him this year, which would have kept him in San Francisco at the one-year price of $7.45 million. However, the 49ers decided not to do so.
