Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle states that the Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears, and the New York Jets are the three teams that have expressed the most interest in San Francisco 49ers safety, and pending free agent, Donte Whitner.
Branch also states that the 49ers are "still pushing" to retain Whitner.
Whitner signed with the 49ers in August of 2011. It was a three-year, $11.75 million deal with $4 million guaranteed. He has had 218 tackles, 5 interceptions, and 5 forced fumbles during his three years with the 49ers.
As is common with the 49ers, the team is unlikely to get into a bidding war to retain Whitner's services. If he hits the open market tomorrow, he will likely be gone.
